DISCOVER PARKS SUPPORT GROUNDBREAKING RESEARCH WITH PROSTATE CANCER UK

A Herefordshire holiday business is donating £1,000 to Prostate Cancer UK as part of its ongoing Silver Anniversary pledge celebrating Pearl Lake Country Park.

It’s the tenth charity this year to receive such an amount from Discover Parks, marking 25yrs at their Shobdon site. “Holiday home owners were asked to nominate a charity close to their hearts, a way of giving something back to customers who’ve supported us over the years.” says MD Glenn Jones.

The charity was nominated by owner Judy Appleyard, who came to Pearl Lake at Shobdon following her husband’s death from the disease. He loved the family being together and had a passion for aircraft so a perfect site with the Shobdon airfield nearby.

Barry Appleyard had been diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2010 and the treatment he received helped him to live another 12 years, sadly it returned along with oesophagus cancer in 2022 and his determined battle came to an end.

“Since his first diagnosis Barry would often donate to prostate cancer”,says Judy, “so for us as a family it means a lot that the owners of Discover Park’s Pearl Lake, Glenn & Hannah Jones, are donating such a generous amount to help others with prostate cancer.”

The disease affects 1 in 8 men from dads & brothers to parents and friends. Prostate Cancer UK funds life changing research campaigning for change

Grace Norwood, Community Fundraiser for Prostate Cancer UK, says they’re entirely grateful. “Thank you so much to Judy for nominating us for this generous donation from Discover Parks, it helps fund ground-breaking research and vital support services for all those affected by prostate cancer.”
